DECATUR, Ill. – The Decatur Blaze announced today that Jon Booras has joined the organization as the team’s new assistant coach and assistant GM.

Booras completed a 20-year playing career in 2016-17 that included five years of junior hockey, including two in the USHL, a four-year NCAA Division I career at Lake Superior State University and 11 years at the professional level.

“I've always been interested in coaching and have a passion and love for the game and I always wanted hockey to be a part of my career,” said Booras. “This opportunity with the Blaze gives me that and will help me grow and develop my skills off the ice as well. Also, between me and Zac's professional hockey experience together, I'm excited to help grow this team and organization even more.”

“We’re excited to bring Jon aboard as we look to continue our momentum from last season into the 2017-18 season,” added Blaze head coach and GM Zac Pearson. “Jon has enjoyed success at every place he’s played and has been a captain at the professional level. We have already begun to get started on preparations for next year.”

From 2006-13, Booras played pro hockey for the Bloomington Prairie Thunder and Bloomington Blaze in the IHL and CHL. He skated last season in Poland and Hungary. For three of his last four seasons, Booras served as a player-coach.

Between all three levels of hockey, Booras played in 1177 games with 413 goals and 1005 points.
