NHL Vet, Mikhail Yakubov, Joins Chicago Cougars Coaching Staff

The Chicago Cougars are pleased to announce the hiring of Mikhail Yakubov as an Assistant Coach for the coming season!

 

Yakubov, a former 1st Round NHL pick for the Blackhawks has relocated his family from Russia to Chicago following a 12 year professional hockey career and will now be jumping into the coaching side for his first stint behind the bench.

 

The Barnaul, Russia native was the 10th Overall pick in the 2000 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks and went on to play 53 games in the National Hockey League over the course of 2 season with the Blackhawks and Florida Panthers. Yakubov also suited up in 180 AHL games including the entire 2004-2005 NHL Lockout season and played alongside current Cougars owner and Ottawa Senators Goalie, Craig Anderson. Following the 2005-2006 season, Yakubov returned to his native Russia to continue his professional career where he dressed for 10 years in the KHL totaling 365 Games Played and 95 Points over that span becoming a veteran in the league and wearing his team's "C" for one season. His leadership and playing experience will be a tremendous asset to the Cougars organization and the players under his watch this season. A phenomenal opportunity to be coached by a player of his caliber.

Yakubov rounds out the coaching staff for the Cougars in 2017-18 with Head Coach Brad Stoffers Assistant Coaches Jay De Maria and Mikhail Yakubov along with Goalie Coach Zach Drane. The Cougars begin their season in early September and will travel to Detroit for a series against Motor City to open the USPHL Regular Season the weekend of Septemebr 15th. Home opener is currently scheduled for October 6th vs the Tri City Icehawks at Leafs Ice Centre. Go Cougars!
