NCDC Jersey Hitmen Sweep The Boston Bandits

Bourne, MA - The Jersey Hitmen packed up the bus and headed to Cape Cod this past weekend, not for a leisurely trip or team building adventure, but for a two game set versus the Boston Bandits. The Bandits, a young, hard working, well coached team, had swept the NJ Rockets at home, earlier in the season. The Hitmen were prepared for a hard skating team, and used the Bandits aggression, to make them pay on the power play.

In game one, the Bandits struck early, as Billy Grant, notched only the second power play goal against the Hitmen all season to put the home team up 1-0. Ten minutes later, Niko Happo, scored his first of the season from Connor Quinn and Ryan Finnegan to even the score at one at the end of the first period. The beginning of period two did not go the Hitmen way as 1:17 in NCDC leading scorer, Josh Vertentes, put the Bandits up 2-1. This goal would wake the sleeping giant, as down 2-1, the Hitmen would rattle off seven unanswered goals, 3 coming on the power play and 1 shorthanded. Eventually, the Hitmen would score nine times in route to a 9-3 victory.

The three stars of the game were: Tyler Coffey - In his first Jr hockey game Coffey scored two goals (one on the PP) including the game winner and also added an assist. Jeff Losurdo - the second leading scorer in the NCDC put up a 1-3-4 scoring line and continued his hot play. Tanner Palocsik - scored 2 power play goals, which now places his tops in the NCDC in league PP markers, and added an assist for a three point night.

In game two, the game would begin a little differently, as the Hitmen would notch 3 first period goals and complete the sweep with a 6-4 victory behind 4 more special teams goals (3 on PP and 1 shorthanded). The three stars of the game were: Tyler Coffey - In act two after his breakout performance, Coffey would not disappoint, registering his 2nd game winning goal in as many games on the power play, and would add another goal and assist for a six point weekend. Jeff Losurdo - would have another huge game scoring shorthanded and adding two assists for a seven point weekend. Ryan Finnegan - the Quinnipiac recruit scored seven minutes apart in the first stanza (1PP, 1 even strength), and added an assist for three point game.

The Hitmen are back in action this weekend at the 11th annual Hitmen Classic. Their first game is Friday at 5:45pm versus the South Shore Kings. Follow all the Hitmen action on Hockey TV with the voice of the Hitmen, Mike Sheehan.
