Junior Bruins forward Guus Van Nes has accepted a scholarship from Quinnipiac University for the fall of 2018. Guus is a co-captain of this year’s Bruins squad and thru 21 games leads the B’s with a 8-15-23 scoring line.
Van Nes is a ’97 6’3 191lb centermen who is in his 3rd year with the Bruins top team. He has also shared time with the Dutch National Team in their International IIHF competitions.
Guus’s success story is a simple, somewhat old fashioned one. He showed up at Bruins tryouts 4 years ago unknown to the coaches and staff. He made the 18U team that year and quickly ascended to the top of that teams depth chart. The following season he was a role player with the B’s top junior team and in the last 18-24 months has emerged as one of the top players in the Bruins program. “We couldn’t be happier for Guus and his family. Quinnipiac is a tremendous hockey program and university. Guus has put in the time and effort on and off the ice to prepare himself to be a terrific Division I hockey player. He does so many little things well to impact the game in a lot of different areas. Quinnipiac quickly recognized that ability in him and we all agree there is still a lot of growing and learning for him as he prepares to take that next step. There is terrific upside still in his game. We’re all very excited to see him compete at the Division I level next fall”, stated head coach Mike Anderson.
For the Bruins Van Nes’s deal marks the league high 11th commitment on this year’s NCDC roster. The team is enjoying a 7 game unbeaten streak and at 15-4-0-2 is well positioned once again near the top of the USPHL NCDC standings.
Congratulations to Guus Van Nes and his family on their commitment to Quinnipiac University. Go Bruins.
