CT Jr. Rangers Sweep Home Weekend vs. Rochester Monarchs

This past Saturday night in Stamford, CT the CT Jr Rangers found a way to solve Josh Sarlo and win their 1st of 2 games on the weekend vs the Rochester Monarchs. John DeRoche at 2:17 of overtime was able to beat Sarlo shortside on a 2 on 1. It was his 11th goal of the season and put his among the NCDC league leaders in points and goals. Jack Hannan would get the lone Ranger regulation goal on a great line effort up the ice and hard wrist shot on net that Sarlo had trouble handling, Dmitri Stefanou and Jamie Swiggett would get the assists. The Monarchs would get even on a similar play that would beat Conor O’Brien early in the 2nd to tie things up. The Rangers netminder would finish the night with 21 saves on 22 shots for his 10th win of the season. The Rangers were in control of this one throughout though with a commanding shot margin of 34-21. Both goaltenders were great in this one as they both faced great opportunities in close.

The same 2 teams would meet again on Sunday at Chelsea Piers in Stamford, CT for the finish of the home series for the Rangers vs Monarch. The 2 teams would trade chances back and forth in the 1st but the goaltenders were on again in this one. O’Brien would be sharp throughout, pitching his first shutout of the season, and his league leading 11th win in the 3-0 CT Jr Rangers victory. The Rangers would tally 3 shorthanded goals on the afternoon, Dmitri Stefanou would generate a Breakaway late in the 2nd period and put one over the goalies glove for the 1-0 late in the 2nd. It would be his first Jr goal and eventually the game winner. The game would stay that way until late in the 3rd with the Rangers down a man and the Monarchs pulling their goalie for the extra attacker, Colin Slyne would tally his 9th of the season from his own end to put the Rangers up 2-0 with an assist to Stefanou. The Rangers would add a 2nd Empty net shorthanded goal on the afternoon as Devin Schell intercepted a pass in the defensive zone and would take it down ice and slide it in the net.
