ESTERO, FL- The Florida Jr. Blades ended the 2017 Florida Showcase with a 6-1 victory over the Potomac Patriots at Germain Arena on Sunday afternoon. The four-day event solidified the Jr. Blades fourth place division standings with a 9-13-4 record entering the winter break.
“I really can't complain about our performance over the weekend. The losses were very close games and with one more bounce our way it very well could have been a win for us,” said head coach Todd Pococke. “I'm excited with the direction the team is headed. We will all enjoy a much-deserved break and will get back at it in a couple weeks!”
Captain Evan Maxey opened the scoring off a pass from Jeremy Pelletier when a prime opportunity to strike came 9:46 into the period right past goaltender Kristofer Muhr. Just five minutes later, Hudson Grote and Charlie Mondor sent a feed to assistant captain Riley Degler who doubled the lead. Benjamin Wiltshire put the Patriots on the board when he struck on the power play. Shortly after, TJ Zebley and Maxey teamed up to find Brock Grandbois open to regain the two-goal lead to end the period 3-1.
The final 25-minutes were dominated by the Jr. Blades offense, while Zakery Myrowich owned his between the pipes role. Goals from Parker Hedben, Charlie Mondor and Grote secured the Jr. Blades 6-1 win over the Patriots.
Zakery Myrowich ears the win stopping 29 of the 30 shots faced, while Patriots Kristofer Muhr takes the loss allowing five goals on 35 shots, while Joseph Brown allowed one goal on four shots.
The Jr. Blades will now travel to the 2018 Winter Showcase where they will first face the New York Aviators on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:50 a.m. at the New England Sports Center.
