ESTERO, FL- Forward Hudson Grote and Jake Putnam both recorded a hat trick each to help lead the Florida Jr. Blades to a 10-2 win over the Daytona Racers at Germain Arena Saturday evening. Grote also added three assists, while Putnam recorded an additional point.
Grote opened the scoring at 1:55 of the first period when he stunned the Racers with a shot through Racers netminder Jimmy Engen. Putnam responded to Grote’s swift start to double the lead off a feed from captain Evan Maxey and Dawson Zahorian. Maxey added another assist when he found Putnam open who scored once again to enter the first intermission with the 3-0 lead.
The high-scoring second period would open at the 7:23 mark when Maxey broke the ice off a pass from Ethan Panek and Grote. Three minutes later, Racers captain Parker York scored. Just 52 seconds later, captain Adam Svoboda defeated Racers goaltender Brooks DiMarino. In the final five minutes of the second, Grote would secure his hat trick with two back-to-back even strength goals to end the period 7-1.
Mirroring the start of the second, Maxey opened the third with a tally off a pass from Grote and assistant captain Ben Yaakoby. Two minutes later, Putnam notched his hat trick on the power play with help from Everett Taylor and Tristan Roost. The Racers would earn one back before assistant captain Matt Larmoyeux scored the finally goal of matchup to secure the 10-2 win.
Zakery Myrowich earns the win stopping 25 of the 27 shots faced, Jimmy Engen takes the loss allowing five goals on 25 shots, while Brooks DiMarino allowed five goals on 15 shots.
