The United States Premier Hockey League is pleased to announce that the National Collegiate Development Conference, its Tuition-Free Tier-II Junior Division, will welcome six new members for the 2023-24 season, expanding to a national footprint by adding the Utah Outliers, Ogden Mustangs, Pueblo Bulls, Provo Predators (formerly the Provo Riverblades), Northern Colorado Eagles and Idaho Falls Spud Kings; to create the NCDC West Division.

“When entering the USPHL, the intentions of our Mountain Division were to always play in the Tier-II National Collegiate Development Conference. To date, the group’s operations have been first class and their vision to build the NCDC into a national brand are shared by myself, our Executive Committee, and our membership,” stated Bob Turow, USPHL Commissioner.

“The Mountain Division's six teams will compete at the Premier level for the 2022-23 season and use the year to prepare for the jump to our tuition-free NCDC Tier-II level. Over the next 12 months, the organizations will strategize on their recruiting efforts to attract the nation’s next group of NCAA Division I players,” Turow went on to say.

Sean Wilmert, the Owner of the Ogden Mustangs and a leader in the process of the NCDC’s expansion westward, had this to say about this newfound opportunity. “This is a big day for young players chasing their dreams of playing NCAA hockey in the Western United States. The door to accessing Tier II Tuition-free hockey is now open to thousands of young players in the Western US, allowing them the opportunity to play closer to home. With this announcement, the NCDC West Division will be the westernmost Tier II Junior A Division based in the Continental United States.”

The NCDC is Your Pathway to College Hockey advancing more than 80 players to NCAA Division I institutions in the past two season and having 3 NHL Draft choices in the 2021 NHL Draft. Prospective athletes interested in earning a spot on an NCDC squad can do so in one of two ways. In May 2023, the NCDC will hold its annual Draft, selecting players from the 2006/2007 birth years, while players from the 2005 birth year and older can be tendered by an interested NCDC organization.

With the addition of the NCDC West Division comes many new and exciting opportunities, not just for our new organizations, but our 14 successful teams in the NCDC Eastern Divisions. The United States Premier Hockey League will continue to work with its NCDC owners over the coming months to leverage its national growth, providing all its athletes the best experience both on-and-off the ice, in Tier II Tuition-free hockey. The USPHL Premier’s Midwest West Division will be in the spotlight at the USPHL Midwest Showcase, an annual event held at Fogerty Ice Arena in Blaine, Minnesota, hosted by the Minnesota Moose and running Oct. 28-31, 2021.

The eight Midwest West Division teams will be joined by the Mountain Division’s Pueblo Bulls, giving the showcase a field of nine teams that will do battle over the course of 18 games between Thursday, Oct. 28 (first puck drop at 12:10 p.m. CST between the Hudson Havoc and Steele County Blades) and Sunday, Oct. 31 (final puck drop at 5:30 p.m. CST between the host Moose and the Pueblo Bulls).

The Showcase will provide a great opportunity for teams to be scouted by NCAA and ACHA teams from throughout the Midwest and beyond, and is part of the USPHL Showcase Series.

“The goal of the Midwest Showcase is to provide the player an experience to remember. The purpose of having the showcase in Minnesota is to allow all access to scouts,” said Moose Head Coach and General Manager Jon Jonasson. “We will be rolling out the red carpet for teams in attendance and scouts. With this there will be a social media experience added from Joe Ruhland, with whom we partnered for the showcase. Player Interviews, Scout Interviews, Highlight Videos and an All Showcase team will be introduced this year to amp up the showcase experience.”

The Midwest Showcase is launching a next level social media experience for each team participating in the Midwest Showcase starting Thursday. This is the perfect venue to capture top level talent aligned with a powerful social experience customized for each team.

“Our goal is to elevate the experience of the Midwest Showcase to the next level, by infusing a showcase solution with a pop, presence, and a purpose to benefit the players, teams, fans, and family of our teams and the USPHL,” said Jonasson.

Highly interactive interviews will be conducted with two players from each team and a coach immediately after each game. Once the interviews are finalized with team graphics and names, the shareable social media content will be transferred to each team’s social network manager to post.

Dedicated and enriched experiences, optimizing social media in a positive, professional avenue that sustains the performance momentum beyond the ice.

The 2021 Midwest Showcase will also be naming a Best in Showcase Team following the game on Sunday evening. The team will consist of three forwards, two defensemen and a goalie.

Fans, players, teams, and families can interact with the showcase on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #MidwestShowcase

"The United States Premier Hockey League is excited about the first Showcase Series event of the year, and we know the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes have organized and will execute a first-class event, both in person at Wake Competition Center and on HockeyTV,” said USPHL Commissioner Bob Turow. “This will be a great opportunity for college hockey coaches to see a lot of great talent in the USPHL Premier and Elite Divisions."

“We are truly honored to be hosting the Southeast Showcase in our brand new facility, the Wake Competition Center, also home of the Carolina Hurricanes!” said Jr. Hurricanes Owner Jocelyn Langlois. “Every season the Southeast and Florida divisions have strong programs and have very competitive games between each other. This first event with such strong competition is a great way to start the season. It is also the perfect venue for our Elite and Premier players to showcase their talents in front of scouts and fans. We are excited to be hosting this event and are looking forward to a great weekend of hockey!”

All teams except for the Potomac Patriots have begun their 2021-22 seasons, while the Patriots will open their 2021-22 campaigns at the Premier and Elite level with the Southeast Showcase.

The host Jr. Hurricanes Premier team enters the weekend with a slim one-point lead in the Southeast Division at 2-1-1, followed close behind by defending National Champion Charlotte Rush and Hampton Roads Whalers. The Richmond Generals, who were idle this past weekend, enter with a 1-1 record.

In the Florida Division, the Tampa Bay Juniors are 2-0-0-1, leading their division by one point ahead of the 2-0 Florida Eels and the Typhoon, who are 1-0-1 out of the gate. The Florida Jr. Blades and Atlanta MadHatters are hungry to add to their win column.

On the Elite side, the Tampa Bay Juniors are 3-0 to start, and the Eels enter the weekend at 2-0. Atlanta, the Florida Jr. Blades and Palm Beach will be gunning for their first W’s on the brand new season in Morrisville.

The Jr. Hurricanes Elite team lead their division as well at 3-1, Richmond is at 2-0 and the defending National Championship Rush have started 1-1. Hampton Roads is looking to pick up its first wins at the Southeast Showcase.
