The United States Premier Hockey League is proud to announce that 2015-16 USPHL Premier Player Of The Year Joe Duszak was signed on March 13 by the Toronto Maple Leafs to a two-year future entry-level contract.
Duszak was a four-year Mercyhurst University defenseman who finished his career on Saturday, March 9, in a playoff loss to Army. He finished with 99 career points in 101 career NCAA games, and he was a Hobey Baker Award nominee this year.
His 47 points were third among all NCAA defensemen for 2018-19 at the time of his Wednesday signing.
According to a Maple Leafs press release, "Duszak is expected to join the Toronto Marlies later this week on an AHL try-out basis."
Prior to his career at Mercyhurst, Duszak was a longtime member of the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders (and their predecessors). A native of Franklin Square, N.Y., he first joined the P.A.L. organization in 2012-13.
He remained with the organization through 18U and junior hockey until 2015-16. That year, Duszak was named the USPHL Most Valuable Player and Defenseman Of The Year.
The honors just kept coming in his college career.
In 2017-18, Duszak was named to the Atlantic Hockey Association's All-Conference Second Team and he helped Mercyhurst capture the Atlantic Hockey Association's regular season championship.
The USPHL congratulates Joe and wishes him all the best in what we hope is a long and productive professional hockey career.
