DECATUR, Ill. – The Decatur Blaze announced today the signing of defenseman Jacob Gerber for the 2019-20 USPHL season.

Gerber, a 2001 birth year from Watertown, S.D., skated 41 games for the Blaze last season, compiling three goals and 15 points.

“Ever since I left in early March, I couldn’t stop thinking about the memories I had made, the brotherhood that was created between us young men,” Gerber said. “I chose to go back to try and further my career and there is no other program I would rather do it with. Coach (Zac) Pearson has been a great help and taught me so much my first season. The atmosphere in the Decatur Civic Center is outstanding – it really hypes you up and gets you in the game. I can’t wait to get back and get started. We have unfinished business from last season that will get accomplished this year.

“My personal goal is to get to the next level at the end of this season. For my overall goal, it is nothing less than a national championship. Can’t wait to get back and get started. Go Blaze.”

Pearson saw daily improvement last season from Gerber and sees that continuing next season.

“Jacob is a very coachable kid that just wants to get better,” said Pearson. “His enthusiasm rubs off on his teammates and his work ethic is second to none. I’m really looking forward to having him back and for him to have another breakout year.”
