The Detroit Fighting Irish announced today that Forward Joe DiMitchell 2002 Richmond MI will return to the Detroit Fighting Irish for the 2019-2020 season. DiMitchell whom was the Irish 2018-2019 rookie of the year and earned a reputation as a fiesty opponent during his rookie season and played in 39 games for the Irish. We look for Joey to be a go to guy in the team's penalty killing situations as well expect him to rotate between the wing and center. During the last season we asked Joey to move to the center position to fill a much needed void , he did so without any fanfare and did a great job stated Irish asst coach Jon Clippert. Joe whom is a senior this year at Memphis High School finds himself in a veteran role this season and believes that the tutelage that he received from Irish veteran Dalton Cummings, Zach Weiner and Zach Perry has prepared him to take on the new responsibilities and pay if forward.
We weren't sure what to expect when Joey joined the Irish last season we were concerned about him making the jump from Midget to Junior stated our concerns were more from a social and physical concern stated parents Joe and Christie DiMitchell however the staff and players in the organization made the transition easy for all of us. Joe Sr a former pro player believes that Joey's experience has been very key to his development and not only seen an improvement in his son's playing ability but also has seen Joe began to develop discipline towards training that has definitely been a result of playing at the Junior Level.
