Forward Of The Month: Harris Blackwood, Rockets Hockey Club
The Rockets Hockey Club started its 2019-20 season with a strong 5-2 record in September, including a 3-1 run at the USPHL South Showcase in Chesapeake, Va.
Blackwood (‘01/Hagerstown, Md.) has been all over the scoresheet for the Rockets early on, but mostly in the goals column. He scored seven goals in his first seven USPHL Premier games, adding three assists for 10 points. That has helped the Rockets to stand at third in total offense for the Premier Division in September, with 29 goals scored. He is accurate when he shoots, connecting for a goal on 26.9 percent of his 26 shots taken.
John Gutt,Utica Jr. Comets
Chris Mott, South Shore Kings
Balint Pakozdi, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs
Defenseman of the Month: Josh Bliss, Springfield Jr. Pics
It would be eye-opening just to look at Bliss’ eight points through the Pics’ first four games. But when you look at what this Pics veteran, a ‘99 from West Charlton, N.Y., has done to help his team on the defensive side, that just clinches it.
After all, he has helped the Pics to keep his team at the top of the goals against heap (among teams with at least three games played), allowing just six. Pics goalies have seen only an average of 25.75 shots per game, due to the work of Bliss and his fellow Pics blueliners.
Justin Stairs, Islanders Hockey Club
Josh Kalinowski, Utica Jr. Comets
Goaltender Of The Month: Tripp Clarke, Utica Jr. Comets
Clarke (‘01/Cazenovia, N.Y.) knows just how well-run the Jr. Comets organization is, moving with the franchise this past off-season after three prior USPHL seasons in Syracuse. Player/team loyalty has paid off, and Clarke has been one of the overall goaltending leaders in this, his second USPHL Premier season.
He stands at 4-0-0-1, falling only once in a shootout where he gave up just one goal. He has stopped 126 of 134 shots in full team play, for a .940 save percentage and a 1.74 goals against average. He has helped the Comets to a strong 5-1-0-1 start, putting them at third among all 52 USPHL Premier teams.
