Motor City picks up first win of season in Friday night shutout over Blackbirds

DYER, Ind. – The Motor City Hockey Club picked up its first win of the young USPHL season last Friday night in a 5-0 shutout over the Midwest Blackbirds at the Midwest Training and Ice Center.

Matthew Capek earned the goose egg in goal while Marc Alexander scored twice in the win.

Colin O’Rourke went for a goal and an assist and Peyton Brown and Joey DeMitchell added single goals for Motor City.

Saturday night, Alexander tallied a goal and an assist in a 6-3 loss to the Blackbirds. Ricky Schoenrock and Kinsly Trivisonno also scored.

In the finale Sunday afternoon, Dylan Holman and Mykyta Shulga scored in a 5-2 loss. All three goalies – Ethan Hennessy, Matthew Garneau and Capek – all saw action in the game.

This weekend, Motor City heads to Fraser, Mich., to play in the USPHL Premier Detroit Showcase at Fraser Hockeyland.

Motor City opens with the Columbus Mavericks on Friday at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Lake Erie Bighorns Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the Pittsburgh Vengeance Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. and wrapping up Sunday at 3:30 p.m. against the Metro Jets Development Program team.
