Forward: Akhmed Malsagov, Rum River Mallards
Malsagov, a ‘00 from Moscow, Russia, is a wily veteran of the USPHL, now in his third season in the league and second with the Mallards. Malsagov connected for three goals and added an assist when the Mallards defeated the Steele County Blades in their only action last weekend, earning his first points of the season in his third game.
Defense: Haralds Jirgens, Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings
Jirgens (‘00/Riga, Latvia) is back with the Riverkings blue line, and the experience on that line - including fellow returners Jordan Stear and Zack Hartley - has helped the Riverkings give up just 1.83 goals per game so far. The Riverkings’ defense also keeps the shots on goal against their goalies to a healthy 22 per game average.
With three goals and one assist in the Kings’ sweep over the Dells Ducks, Jirgens improved to nine points in six games.
Goaltender: Alex Shaults, Chicago Cougars
The rookie goaltender Shaults (‘02/Villa Park, Ill.) posted his first USPHL shutout on Sunday, stopping 50 shots from the Fort Wayne Spacemen, in just his second start of the season.
“[Shaults] is off to a hot start and starting to solidify himself as one of the most talented young players in the Premier league,” said Cougars head coach Brad Stoffers.
