Congratulations to this week’s USPHL Premier South Region Players Of The Week, representing the Florida and Southeast Divisions.
Forward: Ian Hofmann, Richmond Generals
Hofmann (‘99/Vancouver, Wash.) delivered and then some over a weekend sweep against the Potomac Patriots, scoring two goals and three assists, with both goals coming in the Sunday game, along with an assist for three points there.
Hofmann is a third-year General, and with the five-point weekend, he improved to 13 points over his 14 games played this season.
Defenseman: Garrett Sandberg, Tampa Bay Juniors
The Juniors have begun to put together some impressive weekends, sweeping the Florida Jr. Blades (the second win coming in overtime) to string up a four-game winning streak. There’s still a long way to go to the top of the division, but the Juniors are heating up at the right time. The ‘99 defenseman from St. Michael, Minn., has been everywhere he needs to be towards those W’s. He put together three assists over the weekend and has four points in his last three contests.
Goaltender: Dominic Rodrigue, Hampton Roads Whalers
The last thing any other Southern region team wants to see is the Whalers winning back-to-back against strong competition, but that’s just what they did last weekend. The Whalers went 2-0 over the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes, leapfrogging them into second place in the Southeast Division in the process. The third-year USPHL veteran goalie Rodrigue (‘00/Quebec City, Que.) was in the net for both wins, stopping 41 of 46 shots for the two victories.
