Forward: Brian Clougherty, Northern Cyclones
The 2000-born native of Lynn, Mass., has had a monstrous December so far, now standing with nine points in his three games since Dec. 1. Clougherty posted four goals and added one assist when the Cyclones defeated the Boston Bandits, typically a very hard team to score against, on Dec. 7.
The nine points in December helped launch him into third place overall in the USPHL Elite with 31 points in 23 games overall this season.
Defense: Luc Fricchione, Springfield Pics
Fricchione (‘02/West Springfield, Mass.) moved up to second overall among defensemen in scoring in the USPHL Elite, thanks to a two-goal, one-assist effort in the first of two wins against the Rockets Hockey Club. The second win saw Fricchione - a fourth-year Pic - and his defensive corps mates keep the Rockets to 19 shots.
Goaltender: Matthew Yankanich, Springfield Pics
Yankanich (‘02/Orefield, Que.) was the goalie who stopped all 19 of the aforementioned shots against the Rockets Hockey Club, earning the shutout. This was his second blanking in his four appearances for the Pics this season, as he also knocked away 24 shots from the Jersey Hitmen in September. He now stands at 3-1 on the season with a 1.75 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.
Also earning a mention is Rockets goalie Joe Hughes, who did everything he could for the Rockets in stopping 41 of 42 shots against the Pics in Springfield’s 1-0 win.
