Congratulations to the Players Of The Week representing the USPHL Premier North Region, comprised of the New England, North East and Mid-Atlantic Divisions.
Forward: Eric Lester, Islanders Hockey Club
The Forward Of The Month for the Premier Division’s North Region picked up right where he left off in the new year and new decade.
He walked away from the USPHL Winter Showcase with five points in two of the four games. The Islanders also went 3-1 at the showcase to get back on the winning side after a tough trip to Tampa in December.
Lester first posted two assists against the Lansing Wolves, before posting a 1-2-3 line against the Connecticut Nighthawks. He kept up this new points streak on Jan. 8 in a midweek go-round with the Junior Bruins. He now has 40 points in 30 games this season.
Defense: Christian Cupani, Utica Jr. Comets
The Comets went 3-1 at the USPHL Winter Showcase, helping the team build its lead in the North East Division.
Cupani (‘00/Orangeburg, N.Y.) put together a strong showing during the showcase, chipping in offensively on all three of their wins. He earned single assists against the Florida Jr. Blades and South Shore Kings, and posted a pair against Detroit in the showcase finale on Monday afternoon. Overall, he now has 21 points in 29 games.
Goaltender: Jacob Wepman, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs
Wepman (‘00/Studio City, Calif.) helped lead the Monarchs to a shining 4-0 mark at the USPHL Winter Showcase. After a light December that saw him play just one game (and win), he was back with a vengeance to start 2020.
First, he stopped 42 shots to blank the Lansing Wolves with a shutout victory. The coup de grace, however, was when he stopped 29 of the 31 shots put on him by the Charlotte Rush, a team that has 11 points on the Monarchs in the overall standings.
His 10 wins overall helped move him into the top 20 overall for that category.
