USPHL Elite: North Region Players Of The Week

By USPHL Staff, 01/12/20, 11:00AM EST

Forward: Alex Laglia, New York Aviators

You never know when a player is going to break out, but it’s always welcome. That was the situation when Laglia (‘02/Fairfield, N.J.) posted three goals at the Winter Showcase. This included two goals - one shorthanded - against the Tampa Bay Juniors, and one more in the Aviators’ finale against the Florida Jr. Blades. He now has five points in 20 games.

Special mention goes to the Boston Junior Bruins’ O’Connor (‘03/Leominster, Mass.) was a huge contributor to a 2-2 run at the Winter Showcase. Over the course of the weekend, in the three games he played, O’Connor had four goals and two assists.

Defense: Kevin Mikolanda, New York Aviators

Mikolanda (‘99/Smithtown, N.Y.) posted a hat trick and assisted on the game-winner by Daniel Yakushenka when the Aviators defeated the Florida Division-leading Florida Eels. The Eels are 25 points ahead of the Aviators in the overall standings.

The win was a major shakeup and a huge boost for a team that is playing one of two Nationals spots available for the three Mid-Atlantic Division.

Goaltender: Cameron Schnopp, Springfield Pics

In a match-up of two teams dead even in the overall league standings, it was the Pics who defeated the Hampton Roads Whalers, thanks in part to a 24-save performance by Schnopp (‘02/Westfield, Mass.) The Pics took the 6-2 victory.

He also went all the way to the overtime against the Potomac Patriots, making 32 saves on 36 shots. The Pics went 3-0-1-0 for the Winter Showcase.
