FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Decatur Blaze went on the road this weekend, winning a 4-3 thriller in a shootout Saturday night over the Fort Wayne Spacemen at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
Down 2-1 late in the third period, Decatur captain TJ Dougan and Walker Smith scored to give the Blaze a 3-2 lead only for Jared Fisher to score the game-tying goal at 19:02.
In the shootout, Sam Aube scored in the fifth round for the only goal of the shootout and Everett Bailey, who stopped 46 goals in regulation and overtime, denied all five Fort Wayne shots in the shootout.
Aube also scored in the third period for the Blaze.
Friday night, Tyler Montoya scored twice, Smith went for a goal and an assist and Christian Babona also scored in a 5-4 setback.
Cooper Stewart and Gabriel Boulanger combined for 53 saves in goal.
In the finale Sunday afternoon, Aube, Babona and Mario Lorusso scored in the third period, but it wasn’t enough as Fort Wayne topped the Blaze 4-3.
Bailey took the loss between the pipes.
This weekend, the Metro Jets Development Program heads to Decatur for a two-game series at the Decatur Civic Center. Game times are Friday night at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
