Toledo OH: The Toledo Cherokee traveled to Dublin OH on Saturday night to take on the Columbus Mavericks and skated away with a 6-3 win. Toledo fell behind 2-1 after forty minutes of play before scoring five goals in the third period to earn two points in the Great Lakes Division standings.
Bailey Byrd (Wyandotte MI) and newcomer Jarrett Henson (Trenton MI) each had a goal and two assists in the win. Matt Gilbert (Wyandotte MI) and Anthony Weinrich (Toledo OH) both had a goal and an assist for the Tribe. Caleb Williams (Genoa OH) chipped in two assists. Devon Dohanos (Sylvania OH) and team leading scorer Paavo Sammalisto (Virrat Finland) also scored for the Cherokee. Ondrej Dupal (Liberec Czech Republic), Tyler Fox (Marshall MI) and Bryce Davis (Elmore OH) all had one assist.
"I didn't think we played well at all the first two periods and it showed on the scoreboard being down two to one after two periods but our guys battled and found a way to score a power-play goal to get things tied up in the third and we were able to take the game over after that." Said head coach Kenny Miller
Toledo goaltender Mason Snyder (Sylvania OH) made thirty-seven saves for the Cherokee and picked up his ninth win of the season.
The Cherokee finally return home this weekend when they host the Lansing Wolves on Friday night at 7:00PM at the Team Toledo Ice House. The two teams will wrap up the home and home series when the Cherokee travel to Lansing on Saturday night. Face-off is set for 7:30PM
"We are excited about getting back home and playing in front of our fans, it has been a long time since we played a game at the Ice House so I know I guys are really looking forward to it." Added Miller
The Cherokee have nine regular season games remaining and seven of those will be on home ice.
