Potomac Patriots defenseman Kieran Furlonger has decided to play his collegiate hockey at SUNY-Fredonia. Furlonger has forged a strong relationship with Blue Devils head coach Jeff Meredith and that helped make his decision easy to continue his hockey career with Fredonia.

“I chose SUNY-Fredonia because of the relationship I had made with the head coach over the past three years,” Furlonger told USPHL.com. “I felt that this particular school would provide the best environment for my continued growth academically, as a player and as a person.”

Furlonger, 20, has excelled on the Patriots blue line since the 2017-18 season, becoming a steady and dependable defenseman. He had three goals and 15 assists in 43 points this past season and finished his Patriots career with nine goals and 38 assists in 127 games. Furlonger credited his USPHL experience playing for the Patriots the past three seasons with his development as a player and a chance to play college hockey.

“Playing in the USPHL helped give me exposure to colleges and universities and playing for Potomac has given me the opportunity to develop as a player over the past three seasons,” the Maple Ridge, British Colombia native said.

Furlonger is planning on playing as long as he can but even more focused on his education.

“My goals moving forward are to play hockey at the highest level I am capable of and getting a degree in a field of study that I enjoy and that will set myself up for success in the future.”
