The Steele County Blades are proud to announce that Carter Broton has committed to play college hockey at Marian University in the fall. Broton just finished his first and only season with the Blades.
The Owatonna, Minn., native played in 24 total games for the Blades after being added to the roster in the middle of November. He netted five goals and assisted on another seven with an accompanying 29 penalty minutes.
Broton was also recently named the 2019-20 Pete Kalan Character of Steele Award Winner for his attributes both on and off the ice.
Head Coach Nick Adamek had this to say about Broton’s choice.
“Carter came in the middle of the season and had a great attitude and a strong desire to work to be better in hopes of landing a college opportunity," said Head Coach Nick Adamek. "He brought a team-first attitude and immediately showcased his leadership qualities. I am proud to say that his hard work paid off. Marian is getting a mature and passionate player who will excel not only on the ice, but in the classroom as well. We couldn’t be happier for him and his family.”
Adamek's sentiments were echoed by Coach Chris Frederickson.
“We are thrilled that Carter decided to come play with us at Marian next year. He is a tremendous kid and has shown great promise with the Blades in his age out season. On the ice, he checks off all the boxes we look for forwards to be successful and that is why he will find success here at Marian.”
“I’d like to thank my family, the Blades coaching staff, and my teammates for their support all year in giving me this opportunity of a lifetime," added Broton. "I chose Marian University because of their great tradition of hockey and academics. The atmosphere there felt like home right away.
"The coaching staff holds their players to a very high standard on and off the ice with winning a championship as the ultimate goal which is something very important to me. I’m excited to be part of this team and university,” added Broton.
Marian University is located in Fond Du Lac, Wis. The Sabres have two hockey programs which compete in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) at the NCAA Division III level and the Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL) at the ACHA Level.
Broton is the first Blade from the 2019-20 season to make his college commitment. More information on where other Blades will be headed will be available shortly.
