The games of Hub City Tampa kicked off on Wednesday morning, and three games took place that day, all at AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel, Fla. Each game was a National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) game.
South Shore Kings 6, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 4
Jake Cady had a hat trick and Chikara Hanzawa registered a goal and three assists as the Kings stood tall in a game that saw multiple leads and tied scores.
Twin City Thunder 3, Islanders Hockey Club 2 (OT)
The two teams swapped goals throughout the second period, and it was the Thunder's Valeri Rykov who scored the game-winning goal at 2:59 of overtime.
Jersey Hitmen 3, Junior Bruins 2 (SO)
The third game of the day followed the theme of instant classics and illustrated that the athletes of the USPHL definitely came to Florida to play, and play hard. Two of the traditional leaders of the NCDC - the most recent Founders Cup winner (Hitmen) and the most recent Dineen Cup winner (Junior Bruins).
The Hitmen took a 2-0 lead that they saw disappear to second and third period goals by the Junior Bruins. That set up what ended up being a 14-shooter shootout. Shane Lachance scored first for the Junior Bruins, before Dylan Lugris added the equalizer. Eight shooters later, Alex Mozian sank the game-winner.
For Day 2, every one of the 26 currently present teams in the Hub City will be playing games. Follow all the action on USPHL.HockeyTV.com.
