DECATUR, Ill. – The Decatur Blaze returned to USPHL play this weekend after the holiday break and went 1-2.
Friday afternoon in Dyer, Ind., the Blaze suffered a 7-5 loss to the Midwest Blackbirds at the Midwest Ice and Training Center.
Stepan Skvirskii scored twice, while Austin Floyd had a goal and an assist and John Weber and Artem Alekhin tallied one goal each.
Blaze captain Cody Wilson tacked on two assists and goalies Cooper Stewart and Peter Van-Iterson combined to make 46 saves.
Saturday night back at the Decatur Civic Center, Skvirskii, Trevor Colberg and Jeff Shirkey scored in a 4-3 setback to the MHC.
In goal, Carter Elmore finished with 25 saves.
Wrapping up the weekend Sunday afternoon, the Blaze knocked off the MHC 6-3.
Dominick Didzerekis and Alekhin each collected a goal and an assist, Skvirskii netted two more goals, and Joey Caputo posted a goal and an assist.
Weber also scored and Floyd chipped in with a pair of helpers to back Tanner Rusnak’s 32 saves between the pipes.
Decatur next plays the Blackbirds back in Dyer Friday and Saturday night. Game times are 6:55 p.m. Friday and 7:20 p.m. Saturday.
