The Toledo Cherokee of the USPHL Premier Division and the Great Lakes Conference is proud to announce that Drew Welsch will attend and play hockey at Trine University. The Cherokee forward will join the NCAA Division III team next season.
The Trenton, Mich., native joined the Cherokee during this season and skated in 27 games scoring 21 goals and adding 14 assists for a total of 35 points.
“Drew is a game changer. He has top level speed and I am confident he will be successful at the collegiate level," said head coach Kenny Miller. “He is a guy that leads by example, he came to us mid-season and stepped right in after Christmas and took on a leadership role.”
The 2p0-year old spent two seasons in the GOJHL prior to joining the Cherokee.
“I am happy for Drew and this family. Trine is not only getting a great player but also a really good kid that will be very successful in life when he is done with school," added Miller.
Welsch joins Tim Organ Jr. (2021-22) and Zeth Stelmaszak (2022-23) as members of this year’s team to commit to Trine.
The Trine University NCAA DIII team competes in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association and is located in Angola, Indiana. The university features a brand new state of the art ice arena on campus.
