Week of Jan. 12, 2022

Pacific Division 

Forward: Jacob Saenger, Long Beach Shredders

Making the 3,000-plus mile trek to Marlborough, Mass., Saenger (‘01/Castle Rock, Colo.) perked up on the trip with a hat trick against the Detroit Fighting Irish in an 8-5 win on Jan. 8, in addition to an assist. One game later, he scored a goal against Utica. He now has 31 points in 30 games.  

 

Defense: Hampus Knutsson, San Diego Sabers

Knutsson (‘01/Sweden) joined the Sabers in November and had a pair of assists during the three games he played at the USPHL Winter Showcase. That actually was the tail end of a five-game scoring streak he began on Dec. 17 and ended on Jan. 8, going 1-6-7 during that time. He has 14 points in 15 games. 

 

Goaltender: James Palmer, Ontario Jr. Reign

Palmer (‘02/Indus, Alberta) makes his return to the USPHL after two seasons away - he last played in 2019-20 for the Charleston Colonials. With the Jr. Reign at the USPHL Winter Showcase, Palmer made 72 saves on 77 shots for a .935 save percentage while going 2-0-0-1 in Massachusetts. 

 

Mountain Division

Forward: Yuri Ushakov, Provo Riverblades

The sixth-year USPHL veteran was a stand-up performer for the Riverblades at the USPHL Winter Showcase in Marlborough, Mass. Ushakov (‘03/Clifton Park, N.Y.) registered three goals in Massachusetts, including the game-winner against the Motor City Hockey Club. Ushakov, who began playing USPHL 16U hockey with the CP Dynamo in 2016-17 - “skating up” as a 14U player, is tied for the scoring lead with 16 points. 

 

Defense: Matthew Koepke, Utah Outliers

Koepke (‘02/Vernon Hills, Ill.) is a second-year Outlier who has been producing offensively with two goals and three assists in the first five games of 2022. He is also a +3 with eight blocked shots so far this new year. Overall, the veteran blueliner has 22 points in 30 contests. 

 

Goaltender: Garrett Alderman, Utah Outliers

Alderman (‘02/Raleigh, N.C.) has been standing tall for the Outliers since the calendars changed. On Jan. 2, he stopped all 19 shots he faced in a shutout of the Provo Riverblades. He went 1-1 at the USPHL Winter Showcase, and in all three games so far this year, he has stopped 40 of 44 shots and he holds a 12-1-0-0 record.
