Voorhees, NJ- In a Wednesday matinee game at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ, your Philadelphia Flyers Junior Hockey team was able to dispatch the visiting P.A.L. Junior Islanders by the score of 6-2.

Flyers forward Zach Lynes was the hero of the game today, as he notched a hat trick, with all three goals coming in the third period.  His first goal of the game, broke a 2-2 tie with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation.  His second goal, assisted by Sam Buck, came just seconds later, as off a faceoff win the Flyers were able to find the back of the net again, extending their lead to two goals.  Two goals were not enough for Lynes though, as a few minutes later he found the back of the net one more time, earning his first hat trick of the year.

After the game, Lynes was sure to give praise to his teammates for creating the chances he had today.  “They just found me open in front of the net, especially on that second goal, all I had to do was drive it home.”

Forward Dylan Plitt notched the fourth and final goal of the third period for the Flyers, putting the final exclamation point on an exciting late game win for the second place Flyers.

Also notching goals in today’s contest were Devin Brink and Trevor Gooch, two Flyers forwards who are very familiar with scoring this season.  Brink’s goal, the Flyers second of the game, was assisted by co-captain Ryan Badger, who unselfishly found Brink open for the breakaway goal, which came to fruition just seconds after a successful Flyers penalty kill.

Trevor Gooch’s goal, came just 13 seconds into the second period of play, following a scoreless first period from both sides.  The goal from Gooch, his 19th of the year, now puts him alone atop the leaderboard for goal scorers in the USPHL.

Earning the win in net was Joe Young, who now improves to 11-4 this season between the pipes.  Young, allowed just two Islanders goals, one on a powerplay, scored by the Islanders leading scorer Christopher Wallace and the other a rebound score for Islanders captain James Mazza.

With the win the Flyers extended their winning streak to eight straight and now sit just four points behind the Jersey Hitmen, who were idle today.  The Flyers will continue their three game homestand this weekend, as they take on the Portland Pirates on Saturday 11/15 and Sunday 11/16 at 7:00 PM and 1:20 PM respectively.
