"Brassard is a leader by example," commented coach Harris. "Last season he came into training camp in amazing shape, coming off a season ending shoulder surgery in 2013-14, and played in our top pair as we won our 4th Dineen Cup Championship. This season he came into camp with a different air about him, hungry for a division one commitment and ready to defend a championship. I think that really resonated through the locker room."
Assisting Brassard, will be veteran forward, David Szmyd, and returning defenseman, Bump Lisk. "What I really like about these two players being voted in is that they are both call ups from our elite team," commented coach Harris. "What this says to me is that the system is working. Our ladder of development is feeding top players to our premier team and that excited me for the future of this franchise."
Szmyd, coming off his first year with the Premier team, notched 13 points in 28 games, and has made huge strides in the off season. Lisk, cut from the same cloth as Szmyd, is meticulous and a tireless worker.
"When I walk into the rink in the mornings, two of the faces I generally see first are Lisk and Szmyd's. Our whole style of play and creed is based on accountability and tenacity and both of these players illustrate the direction that we want to take this team this season." Harris continued, "I could not be more happy that through training camp and the exhibition season that the 24 guys in our locker room realized that, and casted their votes for these three guys. Truly, leaders by example both on and off the ice!"
