Now becoming a favorite tradition within the Skipjacks Hockey Club and the Piney Orchard community, the Jacks have enjoyed a lot of success with the event, all benefitting a great cause. Over the past 2 years, the event has had over 1000 fans tossing over 700 teddy bears onto the ice after the Skipjacks scored their first goal. Last season’s first goal was scored by Rylan Cratsenberg at the 1:25 mark of the first period, as the Jacks pounded the Springfield Pics 5-1.
If you’re new to the teddy bear toss, it works like this: Fans bring teddy bears to the game (new or slightly used), and after the Skipjacks score their first goal of the game the fans throw their bears onto the ice. As with last year, the Skipjacks will donate all the teddy bears tossed onto the ice to the Children’s National Medical Center.
The Teddy Bear Toss U18 game kicks off a full evening of hockey with the U16 Skipjacks also facing off against the Jersey Hitmen at 5:45PM, and the U16 Futures Skipjacks facing off against the Hampton Roads Whalers at 8:00PM.
We look forward to seeing you at Piney Orchard on December 19th. Please bring as many teddy bears as possible!
