What a night! Leading my country on to the ice almost moved me to tears in front of 1000 French and Great Britain fans. We were up against the tournament leaders and heavily favored hosts France.
Tough start, we were out shot 20 to 2 in the opening period. It was a nightmare start but my fellow lions battled with me and we finished 2-1 down.
With the boys not giving up we had what was probably the best 2nd period of our tournament, Lewis Hook out skating a USHL veteran and D1 commit to tie the game. We conceded later in the period a shorthand end goal by France and despite playing better we still trailed by 1 going into the third.
It was gut check time for the boys. Dare to dream our coaches told us, and we were fired up! As someone said after the game, "I've never seen a GB team show so much heart". We put it all on the line. With 36 seconds left, having trailed the entire game, outshot 37-15, the comeback was complete as our captain buried the game winner!
I'll never forget tonight, beating our rivals France, in France on my first start for Great Britain is something no one can take away from us. Now, because of the effort and belief we've showed all week, we play Ukraine for a heavily unfavored, but monumentally deserved medal.
