Syracuse Stars 16U Down #1 Rated Victory Honda

By Nicole Kirnan Kelly, 12/17/15, 5:15PM EST

The Stars U-16 team was one of several top USPHL teams chosen to represent the East in the 1st annual Team Inn Invitational in Detroit this past weekend. Leading up to Sunday, the Stars faced tough competition, including a tough loss to nationally ranked #6 Honeybaked. By mid morning Sunday, Syracuse had accomplished the unimaginable. The Stars overcame nationally ranked #1 Victory Honda by a score of 4-3 in a shootout.
As the bench cleared and the boys began to celebrate, they had no way to realize all they had truly accomplished on Sunday.  To fully appreciate the magnitude of this accomplishment, it is important to recognize the short history of the Midget program. While the Stars Junior program originated in 1985, the Midget program was born only 15 short months ago. In fact, since 1985, one can count on one hand how many full season Tier I midget teams have existed in Syracuse.
When we began the U-16 and U-18 Midget program for the 2014-2015 season, we never dreamed we would be knocking off the #1 team in the country halfway thru our second season. A huge Congratulations goes out to Coach Brost, Coach Willis, and every member of the Stars U-16 team.
