The Forest Lake Lakers would like to congratulate former 2 time Lakers MVP (2014 & 15) and All-Star Goaltender, Matiss Kivlenieks, on winning a gold medal for Team Latvia in the World Junior Hockey Championships in Austria this past week.
He made 4 starts posting a sterling 1.71 G.A.A and 94.1 Save % including a 4-1 victory over Germany.  For the tournament, Kivleniek was named Latvia’s Most Valuable Player.  By beating team Italy for gold, Team Latvia is now promoted to the top division next Christmas, along with the likes of Team USA and Team Canada among the other world hockey powers.

“Our entire Lakers hockey family is so proud of Matiss and his accomplishments. This is a proud day for all.  To think, he was in a Lakers uniform last season and trained with us all summer, to now winning the gold for his country is truly special" said Lakers Head Coach Dennis Canfield.  “Matiss is a special talent with huge opportunities ahead of him. There is no question that the bigger the stage, the better he plays.”
