For Vadim Malinovsky and his Team Belarus teammates, the 2016 IIHF World Under 20 Championship will prove to be a memorable experience.
This year was the first time since 2007 that Belarus competed in the top division against powerhouses such as Finland, Russia, and the Czech Republic. The team scored their first goal against Russia in fifteen years and pushed the top-ranked teams to the brink in nearly every contest.

Malinovsky himself provided a few highlights. In the game against Slovakia, the second of the tournament, he netted Belarus’ first goal in the elite division since January 2007. More importantly, as one of the oldest players on the team, he provided veteran leadership for the second-youngest team in the tournament.

The promotion earned by Belarus last year gave Malinovsky the chance to prove he could compete against some of the top prospects in the world. He represented his country, the Okanagan European Eagles, and the USPHL exceptionally well on one of the world’s grandest stages.
