Skipjacks' Wiseman Makes NCAA D1 Commitment

By Edward Pendergrast, 01/14/16, 11:45AM EST

The Skipjacks Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Mac Wiseman, the hard hitting and high scoring U16 Defenseman has committed to UCONN of Hockey East.
The rookie defenseman has made a heavy impact on both the U16 and U18 Skipjacks, winning United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) Defensive Player of the Week honors a record setting 4 times in a row during the months of October and November.  Wiseman, tallying 11 goals and 9 assists at this point in the Skipjacks campaign, is the highest scoring defenseman in the USPHL.
Wiseman is the first player out of the Skipjacks organization and Pinnacle Performance Training to head to UCONN to play Division 1 NCAA Hockey.  “We are excited to see Mac commit to UCONN and help the Huskies step up to the next level in the future.  The Skipjacks and Pinnacle Performance have a long history of moving players on to Hockey East, and it is exciting to see players move on to more teams throughout that conference,” said Skipjacks General Manager Jason Kersner.
We spoke with Mac following his commitment; he speaks to us about why he chose UCONN, and how skating with the Jacks and Pinnacle has helped him prepare for the next level.  “I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to tour a lot of different schools this past fall, especially because the Skipjacks play in many Hockey East cities, so I was able to get a good look at a lot of great programs, in the end, UCONN made the most sense for me, they have a great coaching staff, and they are an up and coming program that I look forward to be a part of and contribute to.  Playing for the Skipjacks this year and training with Pinnacle Performance not only opened doors for me at the collegiate level, I’ve also improved my strength and my knowledge of different systems and style of play.”
Coach Jason Kersner said “UCONN is getting one of the top 2000s in the country. Mac’s raw athletic ability, explosive skating, toughness, and competitive urgency are unlike many players we have coached over the years.  He is exactly what you want in a player when you speak the words “hard” or “compete”.  He wins 50/50 battles, has a strong lower hand, blocks shots, throws momentum changing hits, and will stick up for teammates.  Mac is still relatively new to the position and he will only continue to grow and develop as a defenseman.  By the time he arrives at UCONN he will be ready to make a big impact.”
UCONN is located in Mansfield, CT and is a newer club to Hockey East, continuing to build a rich hockey tradition in a state with a plethora of hockey history.
