BRICK, NJ - February 15, 2017 The Jersey Shore Whalers, members of the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) are proud to announce that the USP3 Junior team will move up to the Premier Division for the 2017-2018 season.

“We are very glad to be able to announce our acceptance in the Premier Division”, stated Jay Lampiasi, President and GM of the Whalers. The Whalers staff and players have worked very hard to get us to this point. It also shows that the league recognizes our accomplishments and the way that the Whalers have represented the league.  The move to the Premier Division will change the dynamics of the organization. We realized that in order to be able to grow and provide our players with the best opportunities, it was imperative for the junior team to compete at a higher level.  It will now give our players a clear path of progression within our organization from Midget to Junior.  The Premier Division will provide a way for us to funnel our higher skilled players to affiliate teams in the NCDC.  In addition of being able to recruit some of the best talent in the New Jersey area, the organization will now attract interest from players at all our levels throughout the country as well as internationally.”

The Whalers Junior team has competed in the USP3 (previously the Empire) division for the past three years with great success. The team posted 30+ wins in each of their first two years in the league and advanced to the USP3 Championships in 2016.  The Whalers will make their third straight playoff appearance this season.  In the short time, two of their former alumni went on to play NCAA hockey at the DII and DIII level.  Several others are playing at high levels of ACHA collegiate hockey.  In 2016, the USPHL awarded the Whalers Midget teams at the 18U, 16U and 16U-Futures.

The Jersey Shore Whalers will field USPHL teams at Junior (Premier), along with Midget 18U, 16U, and 16U-Futures for the 2017-2018 season.  The Whalers will be announcing a set of events shortly to include a “Meet the Coaches” night where players and parents can meet and talk with the Whalers’ Coaches and staff, Pre-Tryout Camps and Tryouts for both Midget and Junior level players.
