PAL advanced to the finals by defeating the New Jersey Rockets, while Westchester edged the Jersey Hitmen 2-1 to clinch their spot in the championship game.
The 12-and-under Minor Premier title marks the fourth USPHL title in the history of the PAL Jr. Islanders organization. Long considered the powerhouse program on Long Island, PAL youth hockey teams have produced scores of players across the NCAA with many of them continuing into professional hockey. NHL players such as Chris Higgins and Keith Kincaid, as well as 2009 Hobey Baker Award winner Matt Gilroy, have passed through the PAL program on their way to stardom.
With the 12-and-under title coming just one week after the organization’s 14-and-under Premier titles, it is no secret that the future of hockey on Long Island looks bright as ever.
