I feel blessed to have been able to play for the Ducks this past season. Playing for Coach Zaniboni not only helped me develop further as a hockey player, but also as a person. Being a Duck means buying into a culture of accountability and responsibility. This helped me to grow and mature and it has helped me to be better prepared for life beyond hockey. One of the main ideas that Coach Zaniboni emphasizes is “the only thing you can control is yourself.” This means not to worry about others, or what’s going on in front of you, or really anything outside of the job you are supposed to do. Instead it means to go out and give everything you have in the tank to your fullest effort at all times, and whether on the ice or in the classroom this helps you rise above and be successful. As a team this helped us to have success; as people it prepared us for the trials and tribulations of life after hockey. I truly am lucky to have had the opportunity to play in the Dells and I feel like the culture instilled in me and the lessons I learned have prepared me for the challenges and experiences I have the honor of looking forward to in College.
