Eugene, OR (August 17th, 2017) – The Eugene Generals have added Arizona State University’s DII ACHA Hockey Team to its schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
The Generals will play the Sun Devils in a special, one-game-only showdown on Thursday, October 26th at The Rink Exchange in Eugene, Oregon.
The partnership between the two teams comes after multiple members of the front office staff previously worked with Josh Brown, the Head Coach of Arizona State's DI ACHA team and the Director of Hockey Operations for Arizona State's ACHA program, and Chad Bailey, an assistant coach with Arizona State's DI ACHA team. The pair of Sun Devils coaches volunteered their time at this year's USA Hockey Western Regional High Performance Camp alongside Generals GM Flint Doungchak, Associate GM Alex Stimson, Head Coach Justin Kern and Assistant Coach Daniel Gomez.
"After seeing the recent announcement regarding our schedule for the 2017-18 season and seeing what our organization is trying to do in terms of playing collegiate opponents, Coach Bailey gave me a call and we started to talk a little bit about that opportunity and what possibilities might exist between our two programs," said Doungchak. "After talking with him, it seemed like a natural fit for both sides and a good opportunity to provide more exposure to our players in terms of ACHA hockey while also adding another quality opponent to our schedule."
This season’s schedule is proving to be perhaps the most unique and innovative schedule in Tier III junior hockey this season as the Generals will be playing a much more competitive slate of local opponents that will include both collegiate teams and Tier I 18U youth programs. In addition to the higher level of local competition, the Generals will participate in three USPHL Showcases - the Midwest, I.H.C. and Winter Showcases - where they will face off against a minimum of twelve USPHL Elite Division teams.
