ESTERO, FL- The Florida Jr. Blades dropped their Saturday afternoon matchup against the Tampa Bay Juniors 5-4 at the Florida Hospital Center. The Jr. Blades end the weekend fourth overall in the division standings with a 2-2-1 record.
“We're pretty disappointed with our game Friday night. Saturday was a great response, even though we didn't get the result we wanted,” said assistant coach Tyler Carlston on the team’s weekend performance.
After both teams traded scoring opportunities in the first, goaltenders Zack Frost and Nic Redmond were able to neutralize any chances in the frame.
The first 78 seconds exiting the first intermission saw the Jr. Blades take the 2-0 lead after Matt Larmoyeux and Zach Dezotelle netted two goals against Redmond. After assistant captain Adam Svodoba took a penalty for slashing, Juniors Brock Grandbois scored on the power play. Just 60 seconds later, Juniors David Tmej ended the period tied 2-2.
Tampa Bay found momentum in the third overtaking Frost by two goals eight minutes into the period. Captain Evan Maxey found his fourth goal of the season off a fed from defenseman Ben Yaakoby. Three minutes later, Ethan Panek tallied his fifth point of the weekend to tie the battle 4-4. With just 12 seconds remaining in regulation, Daniel Seniov netted a goal to secure the Tampa Bay 5-4 victory over the Jr. Blades.
Jr. Blades Zack Frost takes the lost allowing five goals on 41 shots, while Tampa Bay Juniors Nic Redmond earned the win stopping 42 of the 46 shots faced.
“We definitely didn't play well on Friday, but I thought we responded well on Saturday. Even though we lost, it was a big learning experience for us. We're forward now to the showcase in Chicago,” said head coach Todd Pococke on the week ahead.
The Jr. Blades will now travel to the USPHL Chicago Showcase, where they will first battle the Hampton Roads Whalers at 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, October 12. Games times are subject to change and all Chicago Showcase games are scheduled to be streamed on www.HockeyTV.com.
