Wood Becomes Cyclones 1st NCAA Commitment of 2017-2018 Season!

Congratulations to Premier Defenseman Sam Wood on his commitment to Castleton University for the Fall of 2019-2020.

The Northern Cyclones Premier team is proud to announce their 1st college commitment of the 2017-2018 season. Sam Wood has committed to Castleton University in Castleton, VT for the fall of 2019-2020. The 1999-born defenseman is in his first season with the Northern Cyclones. This is Wood’s first junior hockey season after playing midget hockey the last three years. The Lincoln University, PA native started his midget hockey career with the Skipjacks Hockey Club before moving to the Iowa Wild and last year with the Fredericton Canadiens Midget AAAA in Canada. Sam is the youngest blue-liner for Coach Weiand’s team and he has been one of the anchors on the backend so far, this year. Wood currently has a stat line of 1-8-9 in 23 games and logs big minutes in all situations for the Cyclones.

Sam is considered a mobile two-way defenseman with great leadership on and off the ice, even with being one of the youngest players on the team.
Castleton University is a private university in Castleton, VT. The team competes in the NEHC (New England Hockey Conference). The NEHC is considered by many as one of the toughest conferences in Division 3.  So far this season, Castleton is 1-7-0 in the conference and 4-8-0 overall. The Spartans will be looking for Sam to be a key factor when he arrives on campus for the fall of 2019. When asked about his recent commitment and time with the Northern Cyclones, Sam had this to say,

"I would like to thank my family, coaches, and especially the Northern Cyclones organization as they have helped me tremendously along my journey. I am very excited to become a Spartan and look forward to this amazing opportunity and to fulfill my dream of playing NCAA Hockey.”

The Northern Cyclones would like to congratulate Sam and his family on this great accomplishment and wish them the best of luck in the future.
