The USPHL’s Florida Showcase hosted by the Florida Jr Blades (marks the Jr Blades 2nd year as hosts) brought some very exciting action to the 11 organizations, featuring 22 teams, in the Southeast and Florida Divisions. The annual event provides an outstanding forum for the Southern teams to come together at a venue that allows them to play an interlocking schedule against the other teams in both divisions.
This event dates back over 10 years. The league decided to create the Florida Showcase for the teams to come together and compete in a 4-game series whereby teams from Potomac, Richmond, Hampton Roads, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Atlanta compete against teams from Estero, Fort Myers, Palm Beach, Tampa and Daytona. This season for the first time in league history, all of our Southern teams have Premier and Elite teams.
This is very special as it captures the history and traditions of these two divisions who had once been their own league before joining the USPHL. With having such great organizations down in the Southeast and Florida the league has heightened player development, maintained a stronger recruiting effort and have put a bigger emphasis on coaching and management.
Florida Eels General Manager Frank Scarpaci echoes that this is the most important factor to achieving our goal to commit as many players as we can each season. This is the hallmark of us joining the USPHL. This is what differentiates the USPHL from the other Junior leagues.
They provide the mechanics to help enhance players around the United States starting from their youth division and then allowing them to grow to strive to achieve the NCDC level. But also allows us to have showcases to truly give us unique opportunities to bring scouts to one location for 3-4 days of great hockey!
In fact, we doubled our college coach attendance with an upward of 30 coaches in attendance. The college coaches were from across the United States including the New England area, the Midwest and the South. This accomplishment was phenomenal. Moreover, we know that in addition to the impressive numbers who attended in person, we had another 50+ college coaches tuning in on HockeyTV for the games.
A huge shout out goes to the Florida Jr Blades organization who were excellent hosts for this event at Germain Arena.
We are all looking forward to kicking off the back half of the season at the upcoming USPHL Winter Showcase in Marlborough, MA on Jan 5th-8th.
On behalf of the league, I want to wish everyone safe travels and Happy Holidays!
Frank Scarpaci, Southeast/Florida Coordinator
