Richmond Generals netminder Connor Close, a 5-11, 195-pounder with a 1999 birth year,  will be heading to New Jersey this weekend to practice and play for the New Jersey Rockets of the USPHL's National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC), which is the tuition-free level of Junior competition.

Close is having an outstanding rookie season with the Generals and is among the league leaders in many categories in the Premier Division.  On the season he has played and faced all the top teams, but more importantly, excelled against divisional foes.  He has established himself as one of the top goaltenders in the Premier Division and the Generals are excited for him to have this opportunity at the next level.

On the season Close has dressed for 22 games with a record of 7 wins and 4 losses with a 2.40 GAA and .934 save percentage and one shutout. His GAA mark puts him in seventh place among Premier Division backstoppers and he as won two Player of the Week honors.

Close has multiple Tier II Junior A offers for next season in Canada and the United States.  The Generals have had a player called up to Tier II, or move up for the remainder of the season, every year since the start of the program.

We wish Connor and the New Jersey Rockets luck this weekend as they host the  Syracuse Stars at the Bridgewater Sports Arena on Feb. 10 and 11.
