ESTERO, FL- The Florida Eels 3-0 victory over the Florida Jr. Blades ended a five-game win streak for the organization to end the regular season at Germain Arena on Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd filled with fans, friends and family. The Jr. Blades (40 pts) ended the regular season with a 18-22-4 record, securing fourth place entering the first round of playoffs.
“I'm very pleased with how we ended our regular season. We have come along way and I believe we are headed into playoffs at our peak,” said head coach Todd Pococke. “With the guys that we have in our locker room, we can really do some damage here and I'm excited to see what's at store! We are looking forward to playing against a strong Tampa team for the first round of playoffs.”
The afternoon matchup was the final Jr. Blades game in Germain Arena for veteran captain Evan Maxey, assistant captain Matt Larmoyeux and forward Charlie Mondor.
The penalty filled first period created scoring chances for both teams, but Eels Blake Hoffman would find the only goal of the frame against Jr. Blades netminder Vince Shonka.
As the quality scoring chances increased in the final two periods, Eels Nikta Loptain scored twice against Shonka to secure the Eels 3-0 win.
Eels Viktor Wennberg earned a shutout win stopping all the 24 shots faced, while Vince Shonka takes the loss allowing three goals on 48 shots.
