Thunder Name Doug Friedman Head Coach

Auburn, Maine, March 26, 2018– The Twin City Thunder Hockey team competing
in the USPHL Premier North Division for the upcoming 2018-2019 season are excited to
introduce our Inaugural Head Coach, Doug Friedman. 

Friedman, born in Connecticut but raised in nearby Cape Elizabeth. Doug
enjoyed his youth hockey playing time as a member of the Casco Bay Hockey
Association before going of to be a star at Cape Elizabeth High School. After his
sophomore year, Doug enrolled at Lawrence academy to further his desire to
Division 1 Hockey. After working hard his remaining years of high school he was
fortunate to be offered a walk on spot at Boston University. While attending BU
he did the impossible and what most kids dream about, walk on gets voted
Captain for his constant willingness to stand up for his teammates. During his four
years at BU his teams earned a 118-35- 8 record while making to three NCAA
Frozen Four trips, two Hockey East Championships, two Beanpot titles, and
earned the distinction of being the winningest player in BU history and named the
1993 New England’s Top Defensive Forward.

While in college he was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques. After graduation he
played several years for the AHL Cornwall Aces, Hamilton Bulldogs, Kentucky
Thoroughblades , Worcester Ice Cats, and earned the Captain Title and Calder Cup
Championship with the Hershey Bears. When not out protecting the ice in the
AHL Doug enjoyed playing in the IHL for the Milwaukee Admirals and the NHL
Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators.
Since retiring from twelve successful years of professional hockey Doug continues
to give back to the sport that he loves by coaching and mentoring players to reach
their goals of playing hockey at the highest level they can achieve. We are also
proud to say Doug is also a 2016 Maine Sports Hall of fame inductee, being
inducted the same year as BU Player Travis Roy and BU Coach Jack Kelly.
