Midget 16U and 18U full-season action has begun at the 2018 Hitmen Classic. Several teams are still performing extremely well from the start of the season.

We’ll break down the teams to keep an eye on in Wayne and Little River, N.J., from tonight through Monday.

18U

  • The CP Dynamo started out 4-0 in the league, before running up against some very tough customers at the Boston Junior Bruins Shootout. They were idle the weekend heading into the Hitmen Classic. Their first draw is the New Jersey Rockets, who were 2-2 in non-league games before their first official USPHL game on Friday evening.

  • The New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs are 3-0-1 in the USPHL, and they don’t begin their three-game stand at the Hitmen Classic until Sunday. They draw the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders that night, and their busy Monday presents the New Jersey Rockets and Skipjacks Hockey Club.

  • The Springfield Jr. Pics are only 3-0 in league play, but they are 12-3 overall. They start out on Saturday evening with the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders, who are 1-3 in league play and 3-9 overall.

  • The Jersey Shore Whalers entered at 4-2 against USPHL competition, with a pair of losses against the Selects Academy 18U squad (ninth in the nation, according to MYHockeyRankings), and the Jersey Hitmen (20th in the nation). After starting out against the Maine Moose - against whom they’re winning 4-0 as of this writing -  the Whalers go through the rest of the weekend against the Pittsburgh Vengeance, Syracuse Stars and the Islanders Hockey Club.

  • The Vengeance entered the Hitmen Classic at 2-0-1 overall. They have five games at the Hitmen Classic to start their USPHL existence - Friday against Syracuse, Saturday against Newbridge Academy and the Whalers, Sunday against the Maine Moose and Connecticut Jr. Rangers.

16U

  • The New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs enter at 5-0 in USPHL play. They draw Virtua Hockey Club to start on Saturday, with Monday games against the New York Aviators and Skipjacks Hockey Club.

  • The Rochester Jr. Monarchs, coached by former NHLer Rory Fitzpatrick, are 11-0 overall. They will bring their high-scoring show to the Hitmen Classic on Sunday against the Potomac Patriots and Philadelphia Hockey Club, and on Monday against 16U Affiliate member Florida Jr. Blades and the Connecticut Jr. Rangers.

  • The Aviators are 6-0 in the USPHL, and will jump into the fray Saturday morning against CP Dynamo. From there, it’s Florida Jr. Blades, the Boston Bandits and the above-mentioned Monarchs for a good showdown on Columbus Day.

  • Skipjacks Hockey Club is 3-0 in the USPHL, and outside of the league they’ve done well at 8-2. They hit the scene Saturday night against Newbridge Academy, draw CP Dynamo on Sunday afternoon, and finish Monday with the Bandits and Monarchs.

  • The Northern Cyclones started the Hitmen Classic with a 2-1 win over the Connecticut Jr. Rangers, putting them at 4-0 in the USPHL, after starting their run in the league in late September. They play Saturday morning against the Pittsburgh Vengeance and in the evening against the Syracuse Stars.

  • Philadelphia Hockey Club is 6-0 against USPHL competition. They come in for just a pair of games - first on Sunday against the Rochester Jr. Monarchs, which should be a tight contest, and against Springfield on Monday.
