Congratulations to this week’s trio of Players Of The Week!

Forward: Zach Mazur, Rochester Jr. Monarchs.

Mazur, a ‘98 from Lancaster, N.Y., had a monster weekend for the Monarchs, scoring three goals and adding two assists in the weekend sweep of New Hampshire.

In the weekend finale, Mazur recorded a hat trick in the 5-1 OT win for Rochester. Going into the third period down 4-2, he took over and scored two goals just 32 seconds apart to tie the game.

Mazur then started the 3-on-3 overtime and had the assist on Anthony Scanzuso’s goal for Rochester just 38 seconds into the extra frame.

Defense: Artyom Borshyov, Northern Cyclones.

The Quinnipiac University recruit from Vitebsk, Belarus, had a busy weekend for the Northern Cyclones in their road weekend sweep of the third-place New Jersey Rockets.

Borshyov (‘00) played 38 minutes per game for the Cyclones and is credited for a goal and three assists against the New Jersey Rockets on Dec. 2 in the exciting 6-5 win on Sunday, our NCDC Game Of The Week on HockeyTV.

Goal: Nick Wiencek, Syracuse Stars.

This was practically a tie, and the winners would still both be Syracuse goalies. On Saturday, David Otter stopped 29 of 30 shots and fought off a late Boston Junior Bruins push for the “W.”

A day later, Wiencek (‘98/Eden Prairie, Minn.) had just slightly better stats, stopping 32 of 33 shots in a 4-1 game that was a 1-1 contest early in the second. That game also completed the road weekend sweep of the second-place Junior Bruins.
