Winter Showcase Day 3: A thrilling day featuring plenty of shootouts, overtimes

P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 4, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 1 - Brian Vandelinder scored the game-winning goal and added an assist, as the Jr. Islanders have now scored points in two straight games. They close the showcase with high hopes on Monday morning against the New Jersey Rockets.

 

New Jersey Hitmen 10, South Shore Kings 1 - Philip Elgstam scored a pair, as the Hitmen extended their winning streak in the NCDC to 16 straight.

 

Islanders Hockey Club 4, Rochester Jr. Monarchs 1 - The Monarchs held the lead after one period, but the Islanders stormed back. Ryan Hogg scored one goal and added an assist, both on the power play, for the Islanders.

 

Syracuse Stars 4, Boston Bandits 3 (SO) - The Bandits held the 2-1 lead midway through the game, and then the Stars went ahead 3-2 with 12:01 remaining in the third. Billy Grant, with his second of the game, scored the game-tying goal with 7:50 on the clock. Mathieu Gervais, Syracuse’s sixth shooter, scored the game-winning shootout goal.

 

Boston Junior Bruins 4, New Jersey Rockets 3 - The Bruins fought off a second-and third-period comeback attempt by the Rockets. Luke House had two of those Rockets goals, but Ryan Decker and Ryan Lovett also had two apiece for the Junior Bruins. With that win, the Junior Bruins swept the weekend and have won six of their last 10.

 

Northern Cyclones 3, Connecticut Jr. Rangers 2 - Bryce DeFazio scored the eventual game-winner midway through the third period to lift the Cyclones over the Rangers. Lukas Uhler had a pair of assists. They are now 7-0-1 in their last eight. 


 

Premier

 

New York Aviators 5, Toledo Cherokee 2 - Filimon Ledenkov scored the opening goal and assisted on three others, including the game-winner.

 

Skipjacks Hockey Club 8, Motor City 2 - Henry McKinney scored a hat trick and two assists, and Shane Dotto scored two goals and three assists.

 

Twin City Thunder 4, Niagara Falls Thunder 2 - Jacob Dubay scored two goals in the “Battle Of The Thunder.”

 

Connecticut Jr. Rangers 5, Midwest Blackbirds 1 - Matthew Milone and Trevor Clemson each scored two goals as the Rangers earned their first “W” of the showcase.

 

Hampton Roads Whalers 3, Connecticut Nighthawks 2 (OT) - After a heartbreaking Saturday defeat, the Whalers bounced back with a Sunday win to close at 3-1. Conner Hunt scored the GWG.

 

Niagara Falls Thunder 2, Toledo Cherokee 1 - The Thunder’s Joe Shanley scored the game-winner as the Thunder closed out a 2-2 weekend.

 

Rochester Jr. Monarchs 6, Detroit Fighting Irish 2 - Two goals each by Matthew Berner (along with two assists) and Matthew Palmer lifted the Monarchs to a victory.

 

Atlanta Jr. Kings 3, Syracuse Stars 0 - Joey Onorato scored one game-winning goal, and Nathan Gauthier got the shutout.

 

Chicago Cougars 4, Philadelphia Hockey Club 3 - Breydon Hemminger scored the game-winning goal with 4:31 remaining. Chicago finished the showcase 2-2.

 

Hartford Jr. Wolfpack 2, Potomac Patriots 1 - Edvin Wilhelmsson scored the game-winning goal early in the second half.  

 

New Jersey Rockets 3, Wooster Oilers 2 - Despite two late goals by Zack Zwierecki, the Rockets held on for the win, with Ethan O’Connor registering the GWG.

 

Charlotte Rush 3, South Shore Kings 1 - The two teams battled through much of the second half at 1-1, but Antonio Demacopoulos scored the game-winner with milliseconds on the clock.  

 

New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 4, Pittsburgh Vengeance 2 - Zach Olen scored a pair of goals to help the Monarchs improve to 3-0 on the weekend.

 

Springfield Jr. Pics 10, Tri-City IceHawks 2 - Noe Turdjmann led the way in a big third win of the weekend for the Pics.

 

Junior Bruins 4, Motor City Hockey Club 3 - The Junior Bruins held off a furious second half comeback attempt by the MCHC. Peter Nugent scored the game-winner.

 

Jersey Shore Whalers 6, Decatur Blaze 3 - Connor Deverin, in his first game with the Whalers, scored two goals and two assists.

 

Twin City Thunder 7, Potomac Patriots 3 - Jeromey Rancourt scored two goals and added one assist in a two-win Saturday for the Thunder.

 

Connecticut Nighthawks 4, Metro Jets 1 - The Nighthawks earned their first win in their final game of the Winter Showcase. Peter Izzo had two goals and Austin Marini registered three assists.  

 

New Jersey Hitmen 5, Carolina Eagles 1 - Josh Mead scored a goal and added two helpers to lift the Hitmen to a 5-1 defeat of the Eagles. The Hitmen went 4-0 for the Winter Showcase.

 

MJDP 5, New York Aviators 4 (SO) - Trevor Granzow had a regulation goal and two assists, and then scored the shootout winner as the MJDP picked up a huge win over the ofensively dynamic Aviators.

 

Hartford Jr. Wolfpack 8, Tri-City IceHawks 1 - Stephen Thibault picked up three goals and added one assist as the Wolfpack swept the weekend, 4-0.

 

N.H. Jr. Monarchs 3, Richmond Generals 2 (SO) - The Generals were up 2-0, but the Monarchs’ Jordan Hillman scored the game-tying goal with three seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and eventually the shootout.

 

Springfield Pics 3, Wooster Oilers 0 - The Pics went 4-0 for the weekend, with Blake Carlson earning his second shutout of the weekend.

 

Elite

Hampton Roads Whalers, 10, Hartford Jr. Wolfpack 0 - Tanner Davis, Nathan McNamara and Mark Scicchitano each scored two goals as the Whalers closed out with a 2-2 record. Greg Moon earned the shutout.

 

Team Beijing 3, Potomac Patriots 1 - Forest Li scored two goals and added one assist to help Team Beijing go 4-0 at the USPHL Winter Showcase.

 

Islanders Hockey Club 2, New York Aviators 0 - Jimmy Sturdivent scored one goal and added one assist, and Nathan Bourdelais had the clean slate in net.

 

New Jersey Rockets 4, Boston Bandits 3 - Nicholas Jinks scored one goal and added one assist, the latter on the game-winner with 6:24 remaining.

 

Northern Cyclones 4, Charlotte Rush 3 - Captain Matt Irwin scored two goals, including the OT game-winner just 19 seconds into the extra session.

 

New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 5, Atlanta Jr. Kings 2 - Balint Pakozdi scored a goal and two assists, and went 2-1 heading into a big Monday battle with the Richmond Generals.

 

New Jersey Hitmen 6, Hartford Jr. Wolfpack 1 - Kyle Bishop scored two goals from the blue line for the Hitmen, who were able to walk away from the Winter Showcase with a “W.”

 

Potomac Patriots 4, Springfield Pics 3 - In a back-and-forth match-up, the Patriots were lead by a two-goal effort from Pierce Coffman to go 2-1 thus far.

 

Carolina Eagles 4, Junior Bruins 3 - The Eagles came back from being down 4-1 to score two in the third and one in the overtime. Noah Friedman was the game-tying and overtime hero with back-to-back goals.

 

Richmond Generals 6, Northern Cyclones 3 - Ryan Murphy scored two goals and the Generals earned their seventh win in a row.


New York Aviators 1, Junior Bruins 0 - Jacob Roth stopped 19 shots, and Anthony Hagiu scored the only goal that the Aviators would need.
