Decatur Blaze stumbles at USPHL Winter Showcase

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The Decatur Blaze stumbled this weekend at the USPHL Winter Showcase, finishing 0-4 at the event.

 

Friday, the Blaze fell 5-3 to the Rochester Monarchs. Mavrick Melancon, Alek Lorsung and TJ Dougan scored and Daniil Burmatov and Remy Champiux combined to make 25 saves in goal.

 

In the first game Saturday, the Springfield Pics blanked Decatur 4-0. Champoux made 20 stops.

 

Then later Saturday, Scott Wargin and Mario Lorusso scored and Cameron Bernard stopped 25 shots, but the Blaze lost 4-2 to the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack.

 

Finishing out the showcase, Decatur suffered a 6-3 setback Sunday to the Jersey Shore Whalers. Anthony Beltrame, Liam Miles and Melancon scored and Trey Dill turned aside 27 shots in goal.

 

The Blaze next play a single game this Friday night at the Leafs Centre against the Chicago Cougars. Puck drop is set for 8:10 p.m.
