On the last day of the season in their last game the Richmond Generals Elite went into Prince William Ice Center to take on the Potomac Patriots knowing that if they win they’d clinch the USPHL regular season championship for the Southeast Division. The Generals completed their mission and won the game 6-0 behind a shutout performance from Henri Pelletier and a hat trick from Matt Dougherty. Dougherty’s sixth hat trick of the season set a team record, and his 42 goals were the most goals scored in the entire USPHL Elite Division.

The Generals as a team clinched the Southeast Elite division for a second time in the last five seasons with 68 points and a record of 33-9-1-0-1. There’s no secret that this Richmond team was built to score, but at the same time there was no shortage of team defense and tremendous goaltending. There is no better example of the Generals defensive play than the fact that they finished the regular season a plus 92 scoring a 181goals for while only allowing 89 goals against. Special teams were often the difference in some pretty big games this season as the Generals had the top penalty killing unit in the league and they had the second most power play goals in their division. The late season addition of Zac Boulet helped the Generals finish first overall in shorthanded goals.

The Generals Elite team will head into the Chilled Ponds this coming weekend as the first seed and they will take on the Atlanta Junior Kings in a best of three series to see who will advance to the nationals in Boston.
