Congratulations to this week’s group of NCDC Players Of The Week!
Forward: Tie - Philip Ekberg, Connecticut Jr. Rangers; Paul Bryer, New Jersey Rockets.
Ekberg (‘99/Goteborg, Sweden) scored three goals and added one assist in a 5-1 win over Syracuse on Saturday. It was his second hat trick of the season.
“Philip is coming on as of late and producing points,” said head coach Jim Henkel. “He is also bringing a physical element to the game every night.”
Bryer (‘99/Clarkston, Mich.) scored two goals and four assists over the course of the weekend. He scored twice on Thursday against the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders, and posted two more assists en route to a shootout win. That all gave the Rockets a must-have four points on the week as they pulled to within three points of a playoff spot.
“Paul has really stepped up here at the end of the season as we make a push for the playoffs,” added Rockets head coach Jason Kilcoyne.
Defense: Mick Heneghan, New Jersey Rockets.
Heneghan (‘99/Niles, Ill.) scored one goal and added three assists in two games against the Jr. Islanders. “He has been a key offensive player for us all year from the blue line,” added Kilcoyne. He now has 32 points in 44 games.
Goal: Colten Lancaster, Connecticut Jr. Rangers.
Lancaster (‘98/Charlie Lake, B.C.) had a very busy week, stopping 48 shots on Saturday and 43 more on Sunday to sweep the Syracuse Stars. On Wednesday night, he turned away another 31 shots to beat the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders.
